They fit great underneath pants/shorts or on top of leggings! I haven't fallen in them yet, so I can't speak to how effective they are for minimizing impacts. I'm 46 years old, so I had to make sure to take preventative measures to maintain my body, boots, and bearings😉
I started skating again after more than 30 years off a board (I recently got sober) and a friend suggested I should get pads: all the pads. I thought, “But pads are lame. I never needed pads before!”
A couple slams later and I was hitting the ‘order now’ button, and I am so glad I did.
I can (more or less) bounce right back up and get on the board, ready to give that run another shot. I’m grateful to my friend for the suggestion and to Old Bones for helping to care for mine.
Way more comfortable than I was expecting. Does it still hurt to fall, absolutely, but these make the concrete a little less hard for these old bones.

These work great, but contrary to the sizing guide on the site, they run BIG. I am 190 lbs, 6 ft, and have a 35 inch waist, so I got an XL. Definitely should have gotten a large. I can pull these up to my armpits.
It's not mentioned in the description, so I wanted to write up a review to mention these are excellent for ICE HOCKEY. You can wear slimmer hockey pants and still have a bit of extra protection from falls on the ice with these. I wear them every time I play

I am an adult figure skater and wanted padded shorts with good hip protection. These shorts are perfect - easy to put on, very comfortable and great hip coverage. I also like that there are no velcro fasteners (i.e. belts or clasps) that will wear out.

Bought these for under hockey pants while I’m getting back into the game (read: re-learning my balance from square one). These fit great under my normal equipment without compromising mobility and make me feel more secure for when, not if, my butt meets the ice. Haven’t crash tested them yet, but confident they’ll be up to the task.
Hips pads fit well, a little bulky however you can remove some of the pads to allow a cleaner fit.
I’m goofy footed and slam more on my right hip and removing the left hip pads make for better skating depending on the person and comfort level.
I researched a few different brands, and these were the winner. What sold me on these was the side pad that actually comes up above the waistline to protect the hip bones. They're not as bulky as I anticipated, and fit great under my clothing. If it helps anybody decide on a size, I'm 5' 7", 170 pounds with a 35 inch waist and the XL's fit me perfectly. Never imagined I'd be wearing impact shorts, and now, I can't imagine the skate park without em! Im 51 now, and after a long 35 year break from skateboarding, I feel much safer and more confident on my board with these. Thank you Old Bones for a great product!
I got tired of taking slams on slipping out on ledges on curbs and hip checking the ground. I'm in my mid 40's and recovery takes a little longer after getting hurt, and I'm a mountain bike coach over the summer so I've got to be able to ride. These have been great and helps take the hits and let me skate with more confidence with the extra layer of protection. I've also used these for Snowboarding on those icy days when powder is hard to find.
Where these when I’m riding my Mountain bike or under my dirtbike pants for extra padding and protection. Works great and makes riding more comfortable

Only complaint is the pads placed up high on the sides. They feel unnecessary and distracting, as that's not a place you normally feel clothing like this. I'm going to remove them to make the shorts feel more "invisible" while still protecting the area you tend to fall on when skating.

I wore my new OBT Impact Shorts on a snowboarding trip last week. The shorts we very comfortable and breathable. I also wore them while mountainboarding at a pump track yesterday. Protected my tail bone on a bail in the berm. I will definitely be wearing my new Impact Shorts more this year. Thanks, OBT for another great product!
Fantastic hip and butt pad. More support for your tailbone then other brands. Ive tried them all.

Very impressive design and build quality. I request that a softer, more wickable fabric like Under Armor uses, to give a cottony feel, if possible. In lieu (or in addition) of that I'd like a wicking type fabric insert in the crotch to keep the boys, or girl, dry and comfy.
Not practical for aggressive Mtn Biking, pad volume restricts the normal rider range of motion, compromising necessary bike control.
I’ve tried many different crash pants from G-form, to Amazon recommended brands and these are the most comfortable crash pants that don’t compromise on protection.
The extended hip flaps are super helpful for skateboarding specifically as we ride “standing sideways”.
So far loving them they aren't bulky sized correctly definitely cushion the blow
I purchased these for playing ice hockey.Several times recently I found myself on the ice where my pants didn't offer any padding. After comparing several pairs of padded shorts I decided on Old Bones. They cost a little more then others but the padding was where I wanted them. I have worn them twice now and couldn't be happier.They fit under my pants good and dont hender movement at all. Now only if there was a cup pocket and velcro for hockey socks they would be perfect!

Finally got to wear these at practice and definitely gave them a proper testing! Very comfortable and does its job well. I ate it a bunch of times and the crash pants helped tremendously. I even forgot I was wearing them halfway through practice!
