"I was never a skater, but I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so my knees are very unstable. I am also, as they say, thiccc (with 3 c’s) 😅. You’d be surprised how hard it is to find a comfortable knee brace for larger legs, especially a low profile one that won’t have people stopping me on the streets to ask what “happened” to me. These feel about like a compression sock, but much easier to get on! They also come in a variety of colors, which is always a plus. No more medical black or white, now you can have braces with personality. Although I have to request neon green for the next batch of products! Please! 🐸💚"

"Compression support rules! These knee sleeves are comfortable enough to wear the entire day without being hot, sweaty, or itchy. They are flexible enough to do all sorts of activity, but definitely keep my wonky joints in place. Hypermobile approved!"

"I have hypermobile knees genetically and have dislocated both knees (at different times) multiple times. I've tried a lot of knee braces and these are by far the most comfortable while still remaining secure. I wear them while roller skating under my knee pads and am able to feel secure without being restricted. 10/10 LOVE"

Hypermobile Knee Braces You Can Wear All Day

If your joints have always moved further than everyone else's, the knees are often where you feel it. Customers with hypermobility or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) tell us about the same things: knees that bend back past straight, a kneecap that feels like it could slide off track, a knee that gives way on a step it handled fine yesterday. And because you need support most days, not just for one game, a knee brace has to be comfortable enough to forget about: no velcro, no neoprene against your skin, nothing that rubs or itches by lunchtime.

Every brace here pulls on like a sleeve, in a breathable knit with a non-slip silicone lining that stays put. Start with what your knee does, and match the support to it.

For a Loose Kneecap

Our knee compression sleeve is knitted compression with a silicone gel ring around the kneecap. Compression adds a sense of security for joints that feel loose, and it's slim enough to wear under jeans all day without anyone asking what happened. It comes in 8 colors, so your brace doesn't have to look medical. A sleeve is not a rigid brace, though. If your knee actually slips out of place, step up to springs or hinges. For more on kneecap support, see patella stabilizer knee braces.

For an Unstable Knee That Gives Way

The knee brace with springs is the same sleeve with flexible spring supports down both sides. They add side support for an unstable knee while still bending with you, so it works for walking, running and long days on your feet.

For a Knee That Bends Back or Slips Out

If your knees push back past straight when you're just standing still, even at the sink, or your knee slips out of place, step up to the most structure we make. The hinged knee brace adds rigid hinges on both sides. A hinge helps limit how far the knee over-extends, a bit like an external ligament. The hinges are removable, so on easier days you can wear it as a compression sleeve. If your knee bends back after an injury rather than because your joints are naturally loose, our knee braces for hyperextension are made for that recovery. If a kneecap has fully dislocated, read about a knee brace for a dislocated kneecap and get it checked before you choose.

For Bigger Thighs

Thighs 23 inches and up? The Big Bones Knee Brace is our plus size knee brace: a wider, flared top with side springs and stays that run to the upper edge, so it stays up without rolling. It comes in one size, 3XL, and in the same 8 colors as the sleeve.

Sizing

Measure around your leg 4 inches above the top of your kneecap. For the sleeve: Y is 13 inches or less, S 13 to 15, M 15 to 17, L 17 to 19, XL 19 to 21 and XXL 21 to 23. The braces with springs and hinges use the same chart from S to XXL. Right on a boundary, both sizes fit: size down for firmer support or up for an easier fit. Over 23 inches, choose Big Bones.

Other Joints

Hypermobility rarely stops at the knees. We make the same kind of knitted compression in a compression wrist sleeve, an ankle compression sleeve and an elbow compression sleeve, each sized for its own joint.

Our braces are support you wear, not treatment. They don't change how your connective tissue is built, and they aren't a substitute for a brace a provider has prescribed. If a joint is dislocating often, swells fast or won't take your weight, get it checked.

FAQs

What is the best knee brace for hypermobility or EDS?

There isn't one best brace for every hypermobile knee. It depends on what your knee does. If it feels loose or achy but stays in place, start with the compression knee sleeve: it's the lightest option and the easiest to wear all day. If your knee gives way side to side, the knee brace with springs adds flexible side supports. If it bends back past straight or slips out of place, the hinged knee brace gives the most structure we make. A sleeve is not a rigid brace, so step up if the sleeve alone doesn't feel like enough.

Do I need a hypermobility or EDS diagnosis to wear a knee brace?

No. Our knee sleeves and braces don't need a diagnosis or a prescription, so you can choose by what your knee does today, whether or not you have a name for it yet. If a provider has prescribed a specific brace, go with that one. And if your knee slips out often, swells fast or won't take your weight, get it checked.

Can I wear a knee brace all day?

Yes. Every sleeve and brace here is a breathable knit against your skin, and the silicone lining keeps them from sliding down, so they're made for long days. The braces with springs or hinges and Big Bones have a layer of neoprene padding on the outside, over the springs and hinges, so they don't dig into your leg. It never touches your skin. The compression knee sleeve has no neoprene at all. Take it off to sleep unless your provider says otherwise. If your skin gets red, numb or tingly, take it off and check the size chart, and if it keeps happening, check with a provider.

Do your knee braces have metal in them?

Three of them do. The knee brace with springs and the Big Bones Knee Brace have metal springs down the sides, and the hinged knee brace has metal hinges. However, our compression knee sleeve has no metal at all: it's knit fabric with a silicone gel ring and lining. If you're going through a metal detector at an airport, stadium or courthouse, the compression knee sleeve is the one to wear that day.

Will a knee brace stop my knee from subluxing?

No brace can promise that. A hinge helps limit how far the knee over-extends, and compression adds a sense of security, but neither changes how loose your joints are. A brace is usually worn alongside a strengthening plan from a physical therapist, not instead of one. If your knee is slipping out often, get it checked.

Which knee brace fits bigger thighs?

The Big Bones Knee Brace, made for thighs 23 inches and up. It has a wider, flared top with side springs and stays that run to the upper edge, so it doesn't roll down. It comes in one size, 3XL, in 8 colors. If you measure under 23 inches, the regular sleeve goes up to XXL (21 to 23 inches).

Do you make sleeves for other hypermobile joints?

Yes. We make the same kind of breathable knitted compression in a compression wrist sleeve, an ankle compression sleeve and an elbow compression sleeve. Each is sized for its own joint, so use the size chart on that product's page.
